It’s Getting Hot in Hurr

Since the heat index is supposed to be around 105 here today and since my friend, bahamablonde, told me that my new blog “is on fiyah”, I got to thinking about some of some of my favorite summertime memories from college (that is, after all, what this whole thing is supposed to be about right?). And lucky for you, I have the perfect one to share with y’all this morning.

This may sound crazy to some of you who have never really *experienced* New Orleans, but since we didn’t have beaches or lakes to hang out at on a hot day, we used to go to “The Fly”, i.e., the levee, to chill, have a few adult beverages, and lay out. Some of my best times from college were at The Fly, and even though now I get to be back out on the lake regularly, I still miss that place. For those of you who have no idea about what a levee actually entails, it’s basically just a big grassy field on the water (that you can’t get into).

Anyway, one hot summer day (and for those of you who have never been to New Orleans, there is absolutely no heat on earth like NOLA in August), the Club 7310 Crew (I’ll explain at some point later) was, as usual, chillin’ at The Fly. And man was is HOT. Actually, I think blazing would be a better word to describe it, but we were drinking our daquiris and beer, trying to beat the heat, but there was no relief in sight.

Until… tah dah! (Cue the horns please…) The fire truck arrived. And set up a Slip-n-Slide. With the fire hose. Um, yeah. It was pretty much AWESOME.

Basking in the Slip-N-Slide glory

Just thinking about it cooled me off, so hopefully it provided y’all some relief too (even if it’s at my poor friend’s expense who I exploited in the pic)!
